Q:
Is there a way to determine what groups an individual belongs in after they've been authenticated?
A:
Yup! Use Active Directory Services, available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/win32dev/netwrk/adsi.htm
Once installed, you can check group membership in two lines of VBScript:
Set GroupAD=GetObject("WinNT://domain/group name")
IsMember=GroupAD.IsMember("WinNT://domain/username")

This article will show you one way to achieve the best of both worlds when it comes to authentication.
